Greetings! My name is Ricky Joseph, and I proudly hail from the lush landscapes of Essequibo Capoey Laketop in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a miner, I have dedicated my life to unearthing the treasures of our land, working amidst the vibrant communities that define our cultural heritage. Guyana, with its rich history and diverse population, has given me a unique perspective on hard work and resilience, values that are deeply rooted in our way of life.
Growing up surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Essequibo River and the lush rainforests, I’ve developed a profound appreciation for the natural wonders that our country has to offer. Our food, from the spicy pepperpot to the sweet treats of metemgee and cassava pone, tells the story of our diverse cultures. I cherish the connections I’ve made, whether it's sharing a plate of cook-up rice at a family gathering or celebrating the vibrant festivals that showcase our music, like the pulsating beats of chutney and calypso that echo through our streets.
Though I now find myself part of the diaspora, I carry my Guyanese identity with me wherever I go. Our spirit is deeply Caribbean, and I embrace the warmth and camaraderie that comes with it. Whether it’s reminiscing about life in Guyana or sharing local tales with others, I remain proud to represent a small but significant part of the Caribbean community. No matter where life takes me, I’ll always return to my roots, ready to celebrate the beauty of our heritage and the strength of our people.
