Growing up in Guyana, I have always been surrounded by the flavors of home—whether it’s savoring a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or enjoying a casual meal of roti and curry with friends. Our culinary traditions are something I take pride in, as they showcase the diverse influences that have shaped our identity. I often reminisce about the simpler times spent at the local markets, where the chatter of the vendors and the laughter of children fill the air, reminding me of the special bond we share as a community.
Although I’m currently based in Guyana, the connections I’ve made with the Guyanese diaspora around the world, especially in places like Queens, NY, keep my spirit alive. I recognize the importance of our shared experiences, from the magical hands of our matriarchs cooking up delicious homemade meals to the lively conversations about our homeland. It fuels my passion to represent Guyana and its beautiful culture, no matter where life takes me.
