Greetings! My name is Rohan Balgobin, a proud fisherman hailing from the vibrant West Coast Demerara, nestled on the 46 Back Street Ocean in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this beautiful part of Guyana, I have developed a deep appreciation for our rich culture and heritage. From the lush landscapes of the Essequibo River to the bustling markets where fresh catch meets the aroma of our beloved cook-up rice and pepperpot, every aspect of my life is intertwined with the rhythms of our land and sea.
As a fisherman, I embrace the simplicity and hard work that comes with the trade, channeling the spirit of my forefathers who relied on the bounties of the water. My days are often spent navigating the waters, where each cast of the net tells a story of tradition and sustenance. I take pride in sharing our Guyanese cuisine with friends and family, celebrating our diverse community, and reminding everyone that Guyanese people don’t always get the recognition we deserve—just like my girl who brings attention to our food and people!
Living in this diaspora, I often connect with others who share my passion for showcasing our heritage, whether it’s through stories of the Riv.
