Hello! My name is Rohim Rodrigues, and I proudly call Lower Pom River, Shepeira in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant culture of Guyana has shaped my identity in profound ways. The Pomeroon River flows through my life, much like it does for my ancestors, who relied on its bounty for sustenance and community. Whether it's fishing with family or enjoying a meal of fresh catch curry and rice, these experiences connect me deeply to my roots.
As a resident of Lower Pom River, I've witnessed the rich diversity that defines our nation. My community, home to both Afro-Guyanese and Indo-Guyanese cultures, celebrates this blend through festivals, music, and, of course, our beloved food. I hold a special fondness for gatherings that bring together the folks from Riv. Friendship Backlands and beyond, where we share stories, laughter, and a meal that represents the heart of Guyanese hospitality.
Living in a diaspora community, especially in places like Queens, NYC, I cherish the connections we maintain with our homeland. The memories of home inspire me to advocate for our culture and heritage, reminding others that our strength lies in our unity. As I continue to navigate life, I carry with me the flavors, sounds, and spirit of Guyana, hoping to share them with the world!
