Greetings from the Essequibo Coast! My name is Rohmini Persaud, and I proudly call Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Nestled between the lush greenery and the flowing rivers, this vibrant region is not just my residence; it’s a part of my identity. Growing up here, I developed a deep appreciation for our local culture, from the tantalizing flavors of pepper pot during festive gatherings to the rich history that our landmarks, such as Fort Island, embody. There's an authenticity in our community that draws many Guyanese in the diaspora back to their roots, whether it’s for a family reunion or simply to enjoy a plate of cook-up rice as we reminisce about old times.
As a resident of this beautiful country, I am dedicated to contributing positively to my community and empowering those around me. I know firsthand the unique challenges we face, especially as we witness Guyana’s promising future. With recent developments in our economy, I believe it is an exciting time for all of us. Many of my friends and family members are making their way back home, bringing with them skills and perspectives that will help us flourish.
