Hello! I’m Romel Benn, a proud fisherman from the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam in Guyana. Growing up along the lush banks of the Pomeroon River, I've spent countless hours on the water, learning the traditional fishing methods passed down through generations. Guyana's rich biodiversity not only fuels my passion for fishing but also connects me deeply to the vibrant culture of my homeland, from indulging in fresh catch cooked with spices to sharing stories with neighbors over a bowl of pepperpot.
My journey has taken me from the serene waters of my village to the bustling diaspora communities abroad. I cherish the connections I’ve made with fellow Guyanese who share memories of home, whether it's reminiscing about the lively vibes of an "uptop" gathering or the taste of a freshly made roti. Though I’ve faced the challenges that many Guyanese encounter, including the political climate back home, I remain hopeful and committed to showcasing the resilient spirit of our people.
Currently, I reside at Coast 85 Main Street Housing, where I engage with the local community and continue to honor my roots. Whether through fishing or sharing culinary delights, I strive to keep the essence of Guyana alive in my heart and in the lives of those around me.
