Greetings! My name is Rookmin Dhanpati, and I am proud to call 15 Sarah Wakenaam in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Nestled in the heart of Guyana, this region is a stunning blend of lush landscapes and vibrant cultures. From the serene banks of the Pomeroon River to the bustling markets of Georgetown, my life here is filled with the rich flavors and traditions that define our beautiful country. As a resident of Guyana, I take immense pride in our connections to the Caribbean, especially our membership in CARICOM since August 1st. This bond not only ties us to our Caribbean neighbors but also enriches our cultural experience, making it a joy to celebrate festivals like Mashramani and Diwali with friends and family. My journey has also led me to engage with the Guyanese diaspora across the globe, where I cherish the stories and experiences shared by those who have ventured beyond our shores. There’s a unique sense of community among us, whether we are in Queens, New York, or right here in Guyana.
In my day-to-day life, I find inspiration in the natural beauty surrounding me, from the stunning Green Heart Creek to the lively St. Chad’s Mission area. As we navigate the challenges of today, I remain optimistic about the future of our people and culture. Together, we can foster a deeper understanding of our roots and continue to uplift each other, both at home and abroad. After all, it’s the shared experiences and connections that truly make us who we are.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
