Hello! My name is Roxane Martin, and I proudly call Essequibo 6 Public Road Farm East in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. Living here offers me a unique perspective on the beauty of Guyana’s landscapes, from the lush greenery to the serene rivers that hold the stories of our ancestors. I draw inspiration from our rich culture, whether it's the vibrant festivals that bring our communities together or the delicious flavors of traditional dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice that remind me of family gatherings.
As a resident of this beautiful country, I am deeply connected to the heart of Guyana. I often find myself reflecting on the vibrant history of our nation, particularly the impact of places like Jonestown and the ongoing conversations around our borders, such as the significance of the Ezequibo region. Engaging with my fellow Guyanese and the diaspora, I cherish the sense of unity we share, as we advocate for our land and culture, often rallying around phrases like, “Back off from the Tigris New River Triangle.” Together, we celebrate our heritage while supporting each other in various endeavors.
Outside of my professional pursuits, I enjoy participating in community activities and sharing the joy of our culture. I believe in the importance of connecting with others, whether that’s through food, stories, or discussions about our homeland. I’m excited to continue building bridges within our community and beyond, ensuring that the warmth of Guyana shines bright, no matter where we are in the world.
