My name is Rudolph Wilson, and I’m a carpenter based in the heart of the Essequibo Coast, specifically at 308 Richmond Housing in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve been surrounded by the rich cultural heritage that this beautiful country offers—from the vibrant festivals celebrating our diverse communities to the delicious flavors of local dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice. My work not only allows me to create functional pieces but also to draw inspiration from the natural beauty of our landscapes, including the breathtaking views along the Essequibo River.
Guyana’s identity is often misunderstood, as many outside our borders aren’t aware of our unique blend of cultures influenced by our colonial past. The Guianas, including our neighbors Suriname and French Guiana, have a distinctive charm that sets us apart from the rest of South America. We speak English, and our lifestyle embraces elements from various ethnic groups, celebrating our differences through music, dance, and culinary delights, fostering a strong sense of community that resonates deeply with me.
