Greetings! My name is Rudranauth Sattan, and I proudly call Essequibo my home. As a carpenter, I take immense pride in crafting pieces that reflect the rich heritage and vibrant culture of Guyana. The warmth of our people and the beauty of our landscapes inspire my work. Living in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I find endless motivation in the lush greenery and the serene flow of our rivers, which serve as a reminder of our deep connection to nature.
Growing up in a country where the aroma of pepperpot fills the air during Diwali and the rhythm of chutney music can be heard at every celebration, I cherish our traditions. Whether it's sharing a meal of cook-up rice with friends or enjoying a quiet evening watching the sunset over the Essequibo River, these simple moments embody the spirit of our community. I believe that our culture, with its blend of Indigenous, African, and Indian influences, creates a unique identity that I strive to honor in my craft.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I also appreciate the connections we've built far from home. I’m proud to see how our food and culture resonate with others, whether it’s a comment appreciating our cuisine or a nod to the similarities between our communities and those in places like New Orleans.
