Greetings! My name is Rudy Ramkissoon, and I hail from the vibrant community of Coast Western Dam Sparta in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a proud Guyanese labourer, I embrace the rich cultural heritage that defines our land. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery of the Pomeroon River and the warmth of our tight-knit community, I've developed a deep appreciation for our local traditions, from the rhythmic sounds of tassa music to the mouthwatering flavors of pepperpot and metemgee that grace our tables during special occasions.
Like many in the diaspora, I often find myself reflecting on the unique position Guyana occupies on the map, nestled quietly yet distinctively in South America. Despite this, our stories often remain untold, much like the comments I see from friends across the region wondering about our culture. I believe it's essential to share our way of life, from the vibrant festivals that light up the streets of Georgetown to the humble beauty of the Essequibo Islands.
