Hello! I’m Rukmin Sookan, a proud resident of the vibrant Essequibo region, specifically from Block 8, New Pomeroon-Supenaam. My roots run deep in this beautiful land, where the lush greenery and the mighty Pomeroon River are not just part of the scenery but part of our everyday life. Growing up here has instilled in me a love for our diverse culture, rich history, and, of course, the incredible local cuisine that brings us all together—whether it's sharing a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or enjoying some fresh fish curry right by the river.
The Guyanese diaspora is a special part of my identity. With family connections across the Caribbean, including Trinidad and Barbados, I've seen firsthand how intertwined our cultures are. My grandmother's tales of her life in Guyana always inspire me, reminding me of the strength of our community bonds. I celebrate the stories, traditions, and the warmth that make us uniquely Guyanese, whether it's through festivals, family gatherings, or simply enjoying a good chat with neighbors from RIV.
