Hello! My name is Ruvendra Seerattan, and I hail from the vibrant Essequibo Coast of Guyana, specifically from 44 Middle Street Sparta in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich cultures of Guyana, I have developed a deep love for my country. Here, we celebrate our diverse heritage, filled with Indian, African, Amerindian, and European influences, which is particularly evident in our food, music, and festivities. One of my favorite things to do is gather with family and friends for a plate of pelau or a steaming bowl of pepperpot, often reminiscing about our shared experiences and the beauty of our homeland.
Life in Guyana is colorful, and I cherish the moments spent exploring the local rivers and visiting landmarks that tell our history, like the famous St. George’s Cathedral and the lush expanses of the Kaieteur Falls. Though I work as a labourer, my passion for my culture and my community runs deep. I love to engage with the diaspora, sharing our stories and experiences, as well as learning from others about their journeys. It's heartwarming to see how our small Caribbean nation is celebrated and loved across the world, reminding us that no matter where we are, we carry a piece of Guyana with us.
