Hello! I’m Saif Shurland, an electrician based in the vibrant community of Coast 9 Fairfield in Essequibo, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always been surrounded by the rich cultural heritage that defines our nation. From the mouthwatering aroma of beef curry and dhall wafting through family gatherings to the lively celebrations of Mashramani, my roots run deep in the beautiful blend of our diverse backgrounds—Indian, African, Portuguese, Chinese, and Indigenous.
As a proud Guyanese, I cherish the unique flavors of our local cuisine, like the extraordinary pepper pot made with the sweet touch of cassava syrup. These dishes not only nourish the body but also connect us to our history and family traditions. Whether I’m enjoying a meal with loved ones or participating in community events, I find joy in sharing our culture and its contributions with others. It’s a joy to see the Guyanese diaspora thrive in places like New York, where we come together to celebrate our heritage and support one another.
When I’m not working, you can often find me exploring the natural beauty of our homeland or reconnecting with family and friends who share my passion for our culture.
