Hello! My name is Saleem Azweem, a proud farmer from the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Nestled between lush green landscapes and winding rivers, this area is a testament to the rich agricultural heritage of our nation. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant colors and sounds of Guyanese life has profoundly shaped my identity. I find joy in cultivating diverse crops, influenced by the rich culinary traditions brought by our ancestors, including those from Tamil Nadu. This heritage is reflected in the spices we use, especially the beloved LaLah Curry powder, which adds a unique flavor to our daily meals.
As a part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we maintain with our culture, whether it’s through vibrant festivals, traditional music, or the delicious food that carries our stories. Many of my friends and family abroad often reminisce about the mouth-watering dishes we enjoy, like pepperpot and metemgee, which remind us of home. While some may say “Trini delite way better,” there's something distinctly special about the heart and soul that goes into Guyanese cooking.
In my work as a farmer, I strive to uphold the values of our land, treating it with the respect it deserves.
