Hello! My name is Salim Narine, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Living in the vibrant community of Onderneeming Sand Pit, I draw inspiration from the lush landscapes of my surroundings and the rich cultural heritage of Guyana. Growing up here, I have been deeply influenced by the diverse ethnic groups that make up our nation, including our indigenous peoples, Indo-Guyanese, Afro-Guyanese, and our vibrant Chinese community. Each group contributes to the vibrant melody of life in Essequibo, from our flavorful dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice to the lively celebrations during Mashramani.
As a resident of Essequibo, I cherish my connection to the Pom River, where many memories have been made with friends and family—truly a gathering place for the community. I often reflect on the beauty of our natural landmarks, like the serene beaches and lush rainforests, which tell the story of our land. I also believe in the importance of preserving our environment; after all, a clean community ensures a thriving habitat for both people and nature. Just like my fellow residents, I am proud of our local efforts to keep our surroundings beautiful and sustainable.
