Greetings! My name is Salma Swallay, and I proudly call the Essequibo Railway Embankment in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of Guyana has shaped me into the person I am today. From the sweet aroma of pepperpot simmering in the kitchen during the holidays to the sounds of laughter echoing from the banks of the Essequibo River, my experiences here are deeply intertwined with the essence of our nation.
As a resident, I take immense pride in my heritage and the strong bonds we share within the Guyanese diaspora. Whether it’s enjoying a meal at Sybil’s when I visit family in Queens or connecting with fellow Guyanese in New York City, our community thrives on understanding and support. The recent developments in our country, particularly with the oil discoveries, have sparked excitement about the future, with hopes of transforming Guyana into a skyline of tall skyscrapers, reminiscent of cities like Dubai.
