Hello! I’m Samantha Thorman, a passionate teacher located in the heart of Demerara at 19 De Kindern Housing in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana has shaped my love for education and cultural exchange. I believe that each student carries a unique story, just like the rivers that wind through our beautiful Essequibo—an endless source of inspiration and knowledge.
When I’m not in the classroom, you can find me exploring the rich culinary heritage of Guyana. From the spicy pepperpot to the comforting taste of metemgee, I relish in sharing and celebrating our traditional dishes, often reminiscing about meals enjoyed with family and friends. The warmth of our community, whether here or in the diaspora, is always present, reminding me of the connections we share, no matter where life takes us.
Apart from teaching, I love engaging with our local landmarks, like the stunning Kaieteur Falls, and I often invite my students to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us. I aim to instill a sense of pride in their identity and heritage while encouraging them to dream big. Together, we can navigate the world with the spirit of resilience and creativity that defines us as Guyanese.
