Hello! I'm Sanjeev Dass, a proud Guyanese painter hailing from the picturesque Regina Essequibo Coast E, Short Cut Henrietta in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes, vibrant markets, and the melodic sounds of our local culture, my art reflects the beauty of my homeland, from the serene Essequibo River to the colorful festivals that celebrate our heritage. The warmth of our people and the rich flavors of dishes like pepperpot and cassava pone inspire my creative process, allowing me to share a piece of Guyana with the world.
As someone who has experienced both life in Guyana and the diaspora, I understand the importance of connecting with my roots. The comments from fellow Guyanese resonate deeply with me, especially when they express a longing to share the essence of our nation with their children. My goal is to create artwork that embodies the spirit of unity and pride we all carry, whether we are living in our beautiful land or far from it. I aim to evoke memories of home, celebrating our shared experiences and the landscapes that define us.
In my work, I incorporate themes from my surroundings, such as the tranquility of the Lower Pomeroon River and the vibrant life in the Rockhill Settlement. I believe art has the power to bridge distances, and I hope to foster a sense of connection among the Guyanese diaspora through my paintings.
