Hello! My name is Sasfiya Ali, and I proudly call Better Hope on the Essequibo Coast my home. Living in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I cherish the vibrant culture and the unique blend of our communities. From the sweet aroma of pepperpot wafting through the air during our festive gatherings to the laughter shared over a plate of cook-up rice, every day is a celebration of our rich heritage. I believe that food is a universal language, and in Guyana, it's a dish that brings us all together.
As a resident deeply rooted in my community, I often reflect on the highs and lows of life here. Like many others, I sometimes find myself grappling with the challenges of land prices and the desire to create a better future for our youth. Yet, amidst these challenges, I find hope in our resilient spirit. Whether I’m tending to my garden or sharing stories with neighbors, I’m reminded of the warmth of our people and the beauty of our landscapes, from the Pomeroon River to the lush greenery that surrounds us.
For me, being a part of the Guyanese diaspora means staying connected, sharing our experiences, and celebrating our achievements. I love hearing from fellow Guyanese about their journeys and the little joys they’ve found, whether it’s discovering hidden gems in our homeland or reminiscing about life back home.
