Greetings! My name is Sasha Lall, and I’m proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled between the lush landscapes and the vibrant Pomeroon River, this region is a treasure trove of culture and biodiversity. Growing up here, I've been surrounded by the rich heritage that makes Guyana unique, from the flavorful dishes we savor, like pepperpot and roti, to the warmth of our community gatherings that often take place under the stars. As many diaspora members might say, “Food is delicious, I will say that,” and it’s true—our culinary delights are a point of pride that we cherish and share.
Living in Johanna on the Essequibo Coast has given me a deep appreciation for our local landmarks, like the serene hills of Karawab and the lively markets where vendors showcase their crafts and produce. I often reminisce about the stories shared by my elders, reminding me how the British drew the borders that shape our beautiful land, yet we continue to thrive through our resilience and rich cultural expressions. Whether it’s exploring the high hills of Tororab or enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of St. Monica, every corner of my hometown tells a part of our story.
As a member of the Guyanese community, I understand the challenges we face, including the need for more eco-tourism development and a government that works for the people. Yet, through it all, our collective spirit unites us.
