Hello! I’m Savitri Basdeo, a proud resident of Melville Wakenaam in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant rhythms of village life, and the rich flavors of our local cuisine, such as curry and roti, has deeply influenced my identity. Whether it’s a gathering at the river or a festive celebration, the warmth of our community brings a unique joy that’s hard to replicate. I often reminisce about the laughter shared over mispronounced names of our beloved rivers and waterfalls—like the Pomeroon River, which holds a special place in my heart.
As a member of the diaspora, I carry the spirit of Guyana with me wherever I go. I believe in the importance of staying connected with my roots, whether it’s through sharing stories of our stunning landscapes—from the majestic Kaieteur Falls to the lively Stabroek Market—or advocating for improvements in our community.
