About SEIGHFRED PRINCE ALBERT GILL

About Seighfred Gill

My name is Seighfred Gill, and I am proud to call River Grant Hope in Lower Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a dedicated farmer, my connection to the land runs deep, nurturing not only crops but also the vibrant culture that defines our community. In a country rich with diversity, Guyana is a melting pot of Indigenous, African, Indian, and Caribbean influences, reflected in our daily lives, from the meals we prepare to the stories we share. Whether it’s savoring a plate of cook-up rice with fresh fish or enjoying the sweetness of locally grown pineapples, food is at the heart of our gatherings.

Living in the lush surroundings of the Pomeroon, I often take pride in our natural resources and stunning landscapes, like the beautiful rivers that cradle my village. While some may debate whether Guyana is a Caribbean country, I embrace our unique identity that blends elements from both our neighbors and our own rich heritage. As many in the diaspora continue to connect back to our roots, I find joy in sharing our traditions and experiences, welcoming those who wish to discover the authentic Guyanese way of life.

In my work as a farmer, I not only cultivate the land but also cultivate relationships that span across borders. With each crop harvested, I think of my fellow Guyanese who have ventured abroad but maintain a strong connection to our homeland. Together, we celebrate our roots and advocate for the growth of our beloved Guyana, reminding ourselves and the world that our spirit is as resilient as the land we cherish.
