Hello! My name is Selena Rodrigues, and I proudly call Canal Lower Pom River Grant Hopetown Lower in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. As a farmer, I cultivate the rich land that Guyana is known for, producing a variety of local crops that I love to share with my community. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and vibrant culture, I have developed a deep appreciation for the traditional dishes that bring us together—from hearty pepper pot to the delightful flavors of seven curry. There's nothing quite like enjoying a meal with family and friends, reminiscing about our roots and the simple joys of life.
While many of my friends and family have ventured abroad in search of new opportunities, often settling in the USA and beyond, I cherish my connection to our homeland. The stories and memories we share about our experiences—whether it's the beauty of Kaieteur Falls or the bustling markets of Georgetown—remind us of our shared identity, no matter where we are. I often find joy in watching our diaspora community celebrate our culture and heritage from afar, and it inspires me to continue sharing our Guyanese traditions through my work and daily life.
