My name is Semone Moore, and I proudly call Coast 31 Lima New Housing in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. As a labourer, my daily work reflects the resilience and determination of the Guyanese spirit. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery of our beautiful land and the flowing rivers of our heritage, I carry with me the rich traditions of Guyana—from the vibrant festivals of Phagwah to the soulful rhythms of our folk music. Each day, I strive to keep our culture alive, celebrating the flavors of our cuisine, especially the beloved pepperpot and roti that connect us to our roots.
Although I’m rooted in Guyana, I feel a strong connection to the wider Caribbean community. I share a bond with fellow Guyanese and Caribbean folks around the world who cherish our heritage, whether it's through our unique dialect, our love for masala and curry, or the stories passed down through generations. I share the sentiments echoed by many in the diaspora who continue to uphold our identity, despite the challenges we face. Being part of CARICOM as the largest Caribbean country, I embrace the pride of being Guyanese, even when we are far from our homeland.
In the spirit of community and togetherness, I believe in the power of love and support among our people. It’s this unity that brings us through tough times and allows us to celebrate our achievements. As I go about my daily life, I carry the warmth of our culture with me, reminding myself and others that no matter where we are, we are all connected by the heart of Guyana.
