Hello! I’m Seokumarie Gobin, a dedicated teacher residing in the vibrant area of Coast Demerara, specifically the charming community of Kastev in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always been inspired by our rich cultural heritage and the strong sense of community that defines our people. From the lush green landscapes to the rhythmic sounds of the Essequibo River, every aspect of our environment contributes to the warmth and spirit of our nation.
I take great pride in sharing the flavors of our cuisine with my students, often reminiscing about the delicious doubles from Trinciti and how they transport me back home, no matter where I am. It’s true what they say—food brings people together! As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections I’ve made with fellow expats and the stories we share about our homeland. Whether we’re laughing about the latest local news or enjoying the warmth of a good pepperpot dish, there's an unbreakable bond that pulls us back to our roots.
My mission as an educator extends beyond the classroom. I strive to instill a sense of pride and identity in my students, encouraging them to embrace their heritage. I hope to inspire the next generation to not only appreciate where they come from but also to engage with the world around them. After all, as Guyanese say, “my mout a wata,” and I yearn for the day when I can bring my own children back to experience the beauty of our land and culture firsthand.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
