Hello! My name is Seriema Esawarlall, and I’m proud to call West Coast Demerara my home. As a teacher, my passion lies in nurturing the minds of our youth, helping them navigate the vibrant and diverse world we live in. I firmly believe that education is a gateway to opportunities. When I’m not in the classroom, you can find me indulging in some of our local delicacies, like pepperpot and metemgee, or enjoying the beauty of our landscapes, whether it be the majestic Essequibo River or the rich greenery of our farms.
Having lived in both Guyana and the diaspora, I understand the nuances that come with being part of a global community. It’s fascinating how our culture, from the rhythmic sounds of our chutney music to the flavors of our cook-up rice, resonates wherever we are. I often connect with friends abroad who share the same passion for maintaining our heritage, and we often reminisce about the warmth of our festivals, like Phagwah and Diwali, that remind us of home.
Life in Guyana has its challenges, but it’s always comforting to remember that we are all part of a larger community, whether here or abroad. I hope to inspire my students to embrace their roots while also reaching for the stars. After all, as we say here, "A wahhhhh u duuuuuu deeeee," let’s celebrate every moment we have together and keep our spirit alive!
