About SEWDYAL RAMDHAR

About Sewdyal Ramdhar

Greetings from the vibrant heart of West Coast Demerara! My name is Sewdyal Ramdhar, and I proudly call 145 Fourth Street my home. Growing up in Essequibo Islands-West Demerara, I've been immersed in the rich tapestry of our cultureβ€”where the aroma of fresh pepperpot mingles with the sound of lively conversations spilling out from every home. The local markets, alive with the colors of mangoes and cassava, remind me daily of the warmth and resilience of our people.

Living here offers a unique blend of South American and Caribbean influences, reflected in everything from our music to our mouthwatering dishes. Whether it’s enjoying a plate of cook-up rice on a Sunday or indulging in the sweet taste of guava cheese, our culinary traditions are a testament to our heritage. I cherish the stories from our diaspora, like my friend's family who traveled from Ayiti in the early 1920s, reminding us that our roots run deep and extend far beyond our borders.

As a proud Guyanese, I believe in fostering connections with others who share our love for this beautiful country. Whether you've visited or are part of the diaspora celebrating festivals like Mashramani from afar, I look forward to exchanging stories and experiences that highlight the true essence of Guyana. From the serenity of the Pomeroon River to the bustling streets of Georgetown, there's so much to explore and celebrate in our homeland.
