Hello! My name is Shamir Kamaluddin, and I'm proud to call East Bank Essequibo my home. As a driver, I navigate the beautiful landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam, where the lush greenery and vibrant communities reflect the rich cultural heritage of Guyana. Growing up here, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the diverse tapestry of our society, where Amerindian, African, Indian, and European influences come together, especially in our culinary delights and traditions.
One of my favorite things about being Guyanese is sharing our incredible food with friends and family. Whether it’s enjoying dishes like seven curry or the unique street food found in Georgetown, these meals hold stories of our ancestors and their journeys. I often reminisce about the street vendors and food stalls that populate our vibrant towns, where we gather to savor our heritage, sometimes even eating with our hands, just like our grandparents did!
I cherish my connection to the Guyanese diaspora, especially those who have moved away but still embrace our culture through food and stories. It warms my heart to hear from others who share their experiences of growing up with the same flavors and traditions, like my friends who share tales of their families preparing for the holidays.
