Hello! My name is Shamnarain Lakeram, a proud fisherman from the picturesque Essequibo Coast, specifically the charming community of Forty Feet Market Dam in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up alongside the lush rivers and abundant mangroves has instilled in me a deep respect for the natural beauty and resources of Guyana. I've spent years honing my craft, fishing in our rich waters and sharing the fruits of my labor with my family and neighbors. There's nothing quite like the taste of freshly caught fish served with a side of crab calaloo, our beloved national dish!
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I often reflect on our vibrant culture that brings together diverse influences from Indigenous peoples, East Indian heritage, African traditions, and so much more. This multicultural background is evident in our food, music, and festivals. Whether it's enjoying doubles on a hot day or participating in our famous Mashramani celebrations, I cherish these experiences that connect me to my roots and community. I also look forward to the future, as Guyana is on the verge of significant economic growth thanks to recent oil discoveries, and I am excited to see how this will benefit our people and enrich our culture.
