Greetings! My name is Shania Norton, and I proudly call Regina Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the scenic Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I am deeply connected to the rich cultural heritage of Guyana. From the vibrant markets bustling with spices and fresh produce to the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, my surroundings inspire me daily. I cherish the flavors of our traditional dishes, especially a hearty plate of pepperpot or a sweet bowl of black cake during festive seasons, which remind me of family gatherings and the warmth of our community.
As a resident of Guyana, I carry the stories of our past, from the days of struggle during the dictatorship to the resilience of the Indo-Guyanese diaspora. Many of my relatives have found new homes in the USA, Canada, and the UK, and through their stories, I feel a bridge connecting our cultures. It’s heartwarming to see how we maintain our ties, sharing our customs and traditions even from afar. My experiences here and abroad give me a unique perspective, allowing me to appreciate both our local roots and the vibrant Guyanese identity that thrives in communities worldwide.
