Hello! I’m Shaniya Deputron, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, specifically from Aurora in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up in a vibrant community where the sounds of the creek and the aroma of cook-up rice fill the air, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage that defines Guyana. From the lush landscapes of our rainforests to the bustling markets where you can find everything from cassava bread to Brazilian groceries, each day is a celebration of our unique blend of cultures.
As someone who values connection, I cherish the warmth of our local dialect, Creolese, where a simple "How yuh doin?" comes with a heartfelt response like "Me a'rite." It’s in these everyday exchanges that we truly express our love for one another. Though English is often the language of business, it’s the Creolese spirit that binds us together, no matter where we are in the world. The diaspora community, especially, feels this connection strongly as we share stories of home, reminding ourselves that while we may be miles apart, the love for our homeland is unmatched.
