About SHARON SIMONE TORRES

About Sharon Torres

Greetings! My name is Sharon Torres, and I am proud to call the beautiful Essequibo region home, specifically the vibrant community of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Nestled along the Pomeroon River, my life is enriched by the lush landscapes and rich cultures that define our nation. From the warm smiles of neighbors to the sounds of chutney soca echoing through the streets, every day here is a celebration of our heritage.

As a resident of Essequibo 57 Back Street South, I cherish the culinary delights that our area offers. Whether it’s the mouthwatering aroma of pepperpot simmering on a Sunday morning or the joy of sharing a meal with family, food is a central part of our culture. Like many Guyanese, I have a deep appreciation for the flavors that reflect our diverse backgrounds, from the Indigenous influences to the vibrant Caribbean spices that come together to create dishes that tell our story.

Living in Pomeroon allows me to stay connected with the Guyanese diaspora, who share their love for our homeland from afar. I often find myself reminiscing about the simple joys—like a stroll along the river or a community gathering—while also embracing the modern connections we’ve built through platforms that allow us to celebrate our identity. As I look to the future, I am committed to sharing the essence of our culture with others and uplifting our vibrant community.
