Greetings from Essequibo! I’m Shau Amar, a dedicated joiner based in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of Guyana, I’ve always cherished the rich traditions that define our beautiful nation. From the savory aroma of curry and rice wafting through our homes to the lively sounds of the Essequibo River, my roots run deep in this land. Whether it's enjoying a plate of cook-up rice at a family gathering or celebrating Mashramani with friends, I carry the spirit of my Guyanese heritage with pride.
As part of the Caribbean, I often reflect on our unique position within this diverse region. While some may argue about our identity, I firmly believe that our connection to the Caribbean is undeniable, especially with landmarks like the CARICOM headquarters right here. Each day, I find inspiration from our shared experiences, whether it's through conversations in creolese or the laughter we share over a game of cricket in the yard. It’s this sense of community that motivates me in my work as a joiner, where I aim to craft pieces that not only serve a function but also resonate with the warmth of home.
Living in the diaspora, I appreciate the rich tapestry of cultures that surround me; yet, I always find my way back to the heart of Guyana.
