Hello! I’m Shavana Persaud, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I’m surrounded by the lush landscapes that our country is known for, from the iconic Kaieteur Falls to the serene banks of the Essequibo River. Here, life moves at a different pace, where the aroma of fresh cook-up rice and the sweetness of ripe mangoes fill the air, and every day feels like a celebration of our rich culture.
As a resident deeply connected to my roots, I actively engage with the vibrant Guyanese diaspora, especially those in places like Queens. It’s heartwarming to see our community come together, sharing stories and experiences while maintaining our unique identity. Just like my fellow citizens, I believe in the potential of Guyana, especially with the recent developments in the oil sector. I know that with the right connections and a love for our homeland, we can build a better future together.
While we have challenges, like infrastructural issues and societal behaviors that sometimes give outsiders a mixed impression of our country, I remain hopeful. I envision a Guyana where every citizen, regardless of their background, can contribute to a thriving society. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
