Hello and welcome! My name is Shavia Goberdan, and I am a proud resident of Fleece, located along the picturesque Essequibo Coast in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. With a passion for community and culture, I strive to celebrate the rich heritage of our beautiful country, from the vibrant markets of Georgetown to the breathtaking Kaieteur Falls. I believe that sharing our stories and experiences is essential, especially as more of our Guyanese diaspora explore ways to connect back home.
Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of the Essequibo River islands, I have always been inspired by our unique blend of cultures, vibrant festivals, and, of course, our mouthwatering cuisine. From the savory dishes like pepperpot and metemgee to the sweet delights of guava jelly, I cherish every opportunity to showcase our culinary traditions. I’ve often exchanged recipes and stories with friends abroad, fostering a sense of belonging and nostalgia, no matter where we are in the world.
As we look toward the future, I am hopeful for the development of our beloved Georgetown, ensuring it becomes a welcoming destination for tourists and locals alike. It's important that we enhance our public transport, improve infrastructure, and preserve our historical sites, so that everyone can experience the warmth of our people and the beauty of our land.
