Hello! I’m Shawn Hansraj, a proud resident of Essequibo, specifically from the vibrant community of 435 North Housing in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and rich culture of Guyana, I’ve always been inspired by the warmth of my people and the diversity that surrounds us. From the sound of the Amazon River flowing nearby to the aroma of pepperpot simmering in the kitchen during Phagwah, my roots are deeply intertwined with this beautiful land.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I feel a strong connection to our evolving narrative. Watching our nation transform, especially with the recent oil discoveries, fills me with hope and pride. I often reflect on the journey of our people, especially during challenging times like the recent election conflicts. It’s essential for us to stay united and remain grounded in our values while we navigate these changes. As we celebrate our culture—whether it’s through the beats of chutney music or the vibrant colors of our festivals—I find joy in sharing these moments with my children, ensuring they appreciate our heritage.
