Greetings from the lush landscapes of Demerara! My name is Shazeena Pooran, and I proudly call the vibrant community of De Kinderen in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Growing up in Guyana, I have been deeply influenced by the rich cultural heritage that surrounds me, from the rhythmic beats of our folk music to the tantalizing flavors of our beloved dishes like pepperpot and curry. As many of us know, food is more than just sustenance; it's a way to connect with our roots, and I often find myself reminiscing about the comforting taste of cook-up rice, especially when I’m far from home.
Living in such a diverse nation, I've been fortunate to experience the harmonious blend of cultures that shape our identity. Whether it's the festive celebrations during Mashramani or the annual Diwali festivities that light up our nights, each event reminds me of the strength and unity within our Guyanese community. Although I currently reside here in Guyana, I cherish the connections I've made with the diaspora worldwide, who often express their longing for our rich traditions and local flavors. Like so many, I too miss the warmth of home when I hear comments like, "I miss my GT food just watching your channel." It resonates with our shared experiences, no matter where we may be.
As I continue my journey in this beautiful country, I am committed to promoting our culture and sharing the stories that define us.
