Hello! I’m Shelly Cornelius, a proud resident of River Massarie Island in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of our beautiful Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the rich landscapes of the Pomeroon River, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the vibrant culture and the warmth of our people. Guyana is often overshadowed by misconceptions; however, it is a place filled with heart, diverse culinary delights, and stunning natural beauty. Living in this idyllic coastal area, I have the privilege of being close to some of Guyana's best-kept secrets, such as the serene beaches and lush rainforests that reflect the true essence of our homeland. I often engage with the Guyanese diaspora, sharing stories and experiences that connect us despite the miles apart. Many of my friends abroad reminisce about our rich history and the unforgettable flavors that make our cuisine unique. I believe it’s essential to highlight the positive aspects of Guyana, including our incredible nightlife in places like New Amsterdam and Rose Hall, where you can dance the night away while savoring local delicacies.
