Greetings! My name is Shema Francis, and I proudly call Bank Essequibo, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana, my home. Living in a country rich in cultural diversity, I celebrate our unique blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences. Despite the challenges many of us face, such as economic hardships and education disparities, I believe in the resilience and spirit of the Guyanese people. Our vibrant communities continue to flourish, contributing to the narrative of one of the world's fastest-growing economies.
As a true Guyanese, I enjoy the simple pleasures of life, from savoring a hearty breakfast of bake and saltfish—something I often joke about with my Trinidadian friends, who claim I’ve stolen their recipes—to enjoying a good conversation about our beloved Essequibo River. The warmth of our local culture runs deep, and I find joy in sharing our traditions and stories with those around me, whether in person or through social media. I’m also actively engaged in fostering connections with the Guyanese diaspora, who are scattered around the globe, contributing to our homeland in various ways.
In my daily life, I strive to uplift those in my community and advocate for positive change.
