Welcome! My name is Sheneala Shepherd, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast home, specifically the NOC Compound in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant region, I have always been surrounded by the rich cultural heritage of Guyana, from the rhythmic sounds of traditional folk music to the tantalizing flavors of our beloved pepperpot and metemgee. The Essequibo River, with its serene beauty, has been a constant source of inspiration, reflecting the resilience and warmth of our community.
As a resident of Guyana, I cherish the close-knit ties that bind us. Whether it's the annual Mashramani celebrations that unite us in color and dance or the simple joy of sharing a meal with family, I believe these moments strengthen our bonds. Despite the challenges that many Guyanese face, especially those in the diaspora, our spirit remains unyielding. Connecting with fellow Guyanese around the world has shown me that no matter where we are, our heart beats for this land, whether it be in Lower Pom River or the bustling streets of Georgetown.
Through my work and interactions, I aim to celebrate and share the beauty of our culture, the uniqueness of our landscapes, and the strength of our community. I look forward to connecting with others who share a love for Guyana and are eager to promote our heritage, whether it’s through storytelling, cuisine, or simply reminiscing about our roots.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
