Welcome to my corner of Guyana! My name is Sherilin Persaud, and I proudly call the Demerara Ocean Garden in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. Growing up in this vibrant land has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage, which is a delightful blend of Indigenous, African, East Indian, and Chinese influences. From the tantalizing aroma of pepper pot and cook-up rice to the warmth of our people who lovingly refer to strangers as 'aunt' and 'uncle,' my roots run deep in the communal spirit that defines Guyanese life.
As a resident of this beautiful region, I am fortunate to live near breathtaking sites like the Iwokrama rainforest and our iconic Forts, which tell tales of our historical journey shaped by the Dutch, French, and British. With Guyana now emerging as a blooming oil and gas economy, I am excited to witness the positive changes and developments happening in our country, all while staying connected to our diverse culinary traditions and the flora and fauna that thrive in our unique environment.
