Hello! I’m Shevon Miguel, a proud Guyanese cook living in Regina Essequibo Coast at 33 Alma Street, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant region has instilled in me a deep love for our rich culinary traditions. From the spicy kick of pepperpot to the comforting flavors of a well-prepared curry, my kitchen is a celebration of Guyanese heritage. Whether it’s a family gathering or a community event, I believe food has the power to bring people together, much like how my parents used to drive all the way to the coast just for the delightful local dishes!
As a member of the diaspora, I cherish the connections I’ve built with fellow Guyanese, whether they are near or far. It’s heartwarming to know that no matter where we are—be it in Jersey or anywhere else—we carry our culture with us. I often reflect on the tales shared about places like the Pomeroon River and the significance of our local churches, like the Monica Upper Pom. River Church, which holds so many memories for our community.
