Hello! My name is Shonelle Edwards, and I proudly call Mission in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a chainsaw operator, I find joy in working with the lush landscapes that our beautiful country is known for. Guyana is rich in natural resources and biodiversity, and it is a privilege to contribute to our local timber industry while embracing the vibrant spirit of our communities.
Growing up in Guyana, I have been deeply influenced by our diverse heritage, from the sounds of chutney music to the aromas of a good cook-up rice or pepperpot wafting from the kitchen. I cherish our annual festivals, where the rhythm of our culture comes alive. The warmth and resilience of our people, including my family who have roots in the region, remind me of the strength we carry even as many of us find ourselves in the diaspora, sharing our stories and traditions across the globe.
Though life in Guyana presents its challenges, particularly with the recent oil boom and its complexities, I remain hopeful for the future of our beautiful land. I enjoy connecting with fellow Guyanese, whether they are near or far, and I believe that together, we can celebrate our unique stories while advocating for a prosperous and equitable Guyana. After all, it's not just about where we are, but where we come from and where we are headed as a community.
