Hello! I’m Shurmilla Hoodith, a proud resident of Claremont Leguan in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes, vibrant culture, and the warm embrace of our tight-knit community has deeply influenced who I am today. From the rich aroma of my mother’s homemade pepper pot during the holidays to the sound of laughter shared over a plate of curry lamb or lamb curry (as we like to say), these experiences have shaped my identity and values.
As a resident of a region known for its agriculture and hospitality, I’ve enjoyed exploring our local delicacies, from the massive shark sandwiches at our favorite eateries to the sweet taste of pine tart that brings back fond memories. It’s true what they say: whether you’re grabbing a roti with some sous or discovering the hidden gems in our markets, food in Guyana is an adventure. I take pride in sharing this culinary heritage and love for our culture, whether it’s through storytelling or connecting with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora.
