Greetings! My name is Somaldatt Singh, and I proudly call the serene waters of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. As a fisherman, I wake each day to the rhythm of the Essequibo River, where I often find myself surrounded by the lush beauty of our tropical landscape. The vibrant community here thrives on the bounties of nature, and I take great pride in bringing fresh catch to our local markets and tables. There’s nothing quite like sharing a plate of fried fish with a side of rice and peas among friends and family, reminiscing about our rich culture and traditions.
Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always felt the pull between our South American geography and our Caribbean spirit. Whether it's the annual Mashramani celebrations or the sweet sounds of a chutney tune, our culture is an integral part of who I am. I also enjoy connecting with the Guyanese diaspora, sharing stories of our homeland, and hearing about their experiences. Although some might mispronounce our names or overlook our beautiful interior landscapes, I cherish the depth of connection we have as a nation, both at home and abroad.
