Hello! My name is Sonita Bennett, and I proudly call Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Nestled amidst the lush landscapes and flowing rivers, I live on Sandpit Road, a neighborhood rich in the warmth of community spirit. Growing up here has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our vibrant culture, from the rich flavors of our local dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice to the rhythmic beats of our traditional music that echo through the streets during celebrations.
As a resident of this beautiful region, I am deeply connected to the land and the people who share it with me—just like my neighbors from Portion Manawarin and the Pomeroon River area. I cherish the stories and experiences that we share, as they remind us of our roots and the resilience of the Guyanese spirit. Whether it’s gathering for a festive meal or reminiscing about the days spent along the riverbanks, these moments shape who we are as a community.
Though many of us have ventured abroad in search of opportunities, the bond between the diaspora and those of us who remain is unbreakable. We share our cultural heritage, support each other through challenges, and celebrate our successes, regardless of the distance.
