Greetings! I’m Sookdai Etwaroo, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast at 131 Richmond Housing, nestled in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this vibrant land, where the lush greenery meets the mighty rivers, and the spirit of our people shines through in everything we do. Growing up surrounded by the sounds of the Pomeroon River, I have always cherished the warmth of our community and the rich traditions that define us, from the festivities of Mashramani to the flavors of our beloved pepperpot and metemgee.
As I navigate life here on the coast, I carry a piece of Guyana wherever I go, connecting with the diaspora and sharing stories of our homeland. I often reminisce about the time spent at St. Monica, where the riverbanks tell tales of generations past. In this rapidly changing world, I believe it’s crucial to hold onto our essence, even as we face the challenges of modernity, like the impacts of our newfound oil wealth.
