Hello! My name is Sophia Marks, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Living on the Old Road Westbury within the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I’m deeply connected to the vibrant cultures that shape our daily lives. From the bustling markets of Parika to the serene beauty of the Pomeroon River, this area offers a unique blend of natural beauty and rich traditions. I cherish my roots and often share stories about the warmth of our communities, especially when I connect with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora.
Food is a significant part of my heritage, and you can often find me enjoying a freshly made roti, or as we affectionately pronounce it, raw tee, alongside some curry and cook-up rice. These meals not only reflect our culinary diversity but also serve as a reminder of the gatherings and celebrations that bring us together. I love to celebrate our festivals, from Mashramani to Diwali, which highlight the blend of cultures that make Guyana so special.
