Hello! I'm Stacey Vannooten, a proud teacher residing in the vibrant community of West Coast Demerara, specifically at 31 Clay Brick Road, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I have been deeply influenced by our rich cultural heritage, which is a blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and European traditions. From savoring a warm plate of pepper pot during Christmas to enjoying a Sunday cook-up with family and friends, the flavors of Guyanese cuisine are embedded in my daily life. I find joy in sharing these experiences with my students, helping them to appreciate our local dishes and the stories behind them.
As an educator, I strive to inspire the next generation of Guyanese by instilling pride in our unique identity and rich history. I believe in fostering a classroom environment that encourages curiosity and respect for our diverse backgrounds. My goal is to connect my students not only with their roots but also with the wider Guyanese diaspora around the world, showing them how their heritage shapes their future opportunities. Whether through discussions about our beloved landmarks, like the majestic Kaieteur Falls or the bustling markets of Georgetown, I aim to make learning both fun and relevant.
Though some may say we can be a bit reserved towards outsiders, I welcome anyone who shows genuine interest in our culture and community. It’s through these connections that we can bridge gaps and foster understanding. I look forward to continuing to contribute to our local society while nurturing a sense of belonging for all, especially for those who, like me, hold a deep appreciation for the beauty of Guyana.
